Make your New Year's Eve celebration more meaningful with these fortunate hues.
When the new year comes around once again, many of us begin envisioning a fresh start and perhaps a lot more luck in the coming year. Whether you’re a superstition-believer or not, there are those who see the power of New Year’s colors to bring them heaps of good luck. And while these hues might not exactly promise tons of fortune, in any case, we think they’ll make you feel energized and self-assured as you take on a new year.
For example, red is considered by many to be a lucky color, but it’s also associated with gumption and confidence, making it an ideal color for your New Year’s Eve party ensemble. White is associated with a feeling of freshness, so it’ll act as a symbol if you don it from head to toe. And gold? Well, that’s a color that’s intrinsically tied to New Year’s Eve (the ultimate party color!) and it can denote prosperity, too. Translation? Break out the sequins!
And New Year’s colors don’t have to be limited to just your outfit choices for the occasion. Remember, they’ll look great and may even create some “lucky” ambiance as you do your New Year's Eve party decorating. Shades of silver and purple are perfect for this, and you can always bring back that gleaming shade of gold to really go all out.
No matter what shade you gravitate toward, you’re sure to at least feel luckier with the help of these hues.
Red: Good Luck
Putting red front and center is a great choice for New Year's Eve. While the Lunar New Year won't be celebrated until February 10, 2024, you may still want to take some inspiration from the holiday and wear red. In Chinese culture, red is associated with good luck, so it can't hurt to don a shade of red as we enter the new year.
White: New Beginnings
If you find yourself fantasizing about having a fresh, clean start in the New Year, wearing bright white can be a good choice. White is traditionally associated with new beginnings, purity, and a fresh slate, so you can't go wrong.
Gold: Prosperity
Donning yellow (or gold) could be a good choice as the color traditionally represents prosperity and riches — because, you know, gold.

Silver: Financial Success
The color silver is often associated with ornate, glamorous, graceful, sophisticated, and elegant things. What's more, it also represents financial success, much like gold.
Purple: Power & Ambition
One color that you might be slightly surprised to learn is traditionally associated with New Year's Eve is purple. The connection is pretty obvious once you realize it, though. Since purple is traditionally associated with royalty and power, it makes sense that it would be fitting for the fanciest celebration of the year.
Yellow: Money Goals
Similar to silver and gold, yellow has connotations with money and wealth, so adorn your favorite yellow accessories to manifest a raise or promotion at work.

Green: Growth & Energy
Shades of shiny gold and silver may not be totally surprising when it comes to New Year's Eve (there's a reason why you see so much glitter and sparkle in New Year's Eve outfits), but green is a slightly more surprising option that could bring you equally good vibes as you close out the year. According to ColorsExplained.com, green traditionally means harmony, growth, freshness, and energy. If you're looking to bring those things into the year ahead, wearing green couldn't hurt.
Orange: Optimism
Color psychologists often associate orange hues with optimism, which definitely makes sense. How can you not look at a sunset or a bowl of orange slices and not smile? Since New Year’s is the ultimate time to be optimistic (with thoughts that the next year is going to be even better than the previous one), decorate with the color or even wear it for a bold, cheerful look.
